Description

To reach this cemetery from Independence drive east on Hwy 24 to the junction of 24 Hwy & 7 Hwy, drive 1.1 mile north on 7 Hwy (Twyman Road) to Blue Mills Road, turn right (east), go 1.9 miles, the Six Mile Cemetery will be on your right. This cemetery is owned and maintained by the Six Mile Cemetery Association. It is located on the grounds next to the Six Mile Baptist Church. The church and cemetery are two completely separate entities. The church was organized in 1834, the earliest burial was in 1864. The name "Six Mile" originated because it was located along the west side of a six mile area of protection from the Indians around Fort Osage. This area is part of the Old Santa Fe Trail.
